Forest Edge Round 3 – 6 June 2021

Another sunny days racing at round 3 for the club championship at forest edge! A much larger grid this weekend of 32 drivers meant it was to be a close, action packed weekend where staying out of trouble would be key!

Started the day with qualifying. Qualifying is never usually my strong area, but I knew whatever the result I could go forwards in the races! However, I still got my head down and qualified 19th out of a strong 32 kart field. This meant I would line up in 16th place for the heats.

Heat one I had an average start holding position. I got stuck in for the race and started picking off drivers and moving forward! By the end of the short heat I moved up to 9th place, via some committed overtakes along the way! Was hugely fun picking other drivers off one by one!

Heat two wasn’t quite as good but I still managed to climb up 3 places and finish 13th. It was important to have consistent, clean races as this would determine my starting position for the final which is hugely important as this race is double points and a larger grid.

These solid heats meant I lined up 15th out of 32 for the final. I had one of my best races to date. I made some fantastic overtakes and had great race pace putting in some of the fastest laps on some laps. I stormed my way up to 7th place from 15th out of 32. This would’ve been a great result and meant I would’ve finished top privateer (driver not in a team) but on the last lap, some careless driving from another driver trying to make too much ground too late, took me out of the race. This was greatly disappointing but I took the positives away from the weekend and hope to carry this momentum onto the next race early July which is also the southern championship!

Solid results also meant strong points which moved me up to 8th place in the championship and 2nd out of the privateers, which both myself and my Dad are proud of.

Thank you all for your continued support on everything I embark on, it goes a long way into pushing me to do better!

Best wishes, Samuel.
