We are delighted to see our sponsored kart back on the track with Sam Gay at the helm. The Alton youngster sent us this race report.

Forest Edge Kart Club – Round 2 – 12/07/20

We’re back racing! It was amazing to be back racing after so long out. After a couple of test days it was time for our first competitive race day since the start of lock down!

Unfortunately however, due to restrictions, there was no testing Saturday, and so we were forced to just jump straight into racing on Sunday!

Qualifying didn’t go well as we struggled to find a good set up and lacked a lot of pace. Therefore I qualified 32nd out of 39.

This meant I started 23rd in the first heat. I did make up a few places but was then hit from behind and lost some more. I finished this race 19th.

I got faster as the day went on.

In the pre-final I climbed my way up to 16th place.

Due to the large grid size and restrictions because of Covid-19, the A final was restricted to the top 20 qualifiers throughout the race day. This meant I started 8th in the B-final. The top 4 finishers in this race would be permitted to race in the main (A) final. I had a great race and finished 3rd, making some great overtakes, and was excited to win a start in the A final. However I was then given a 5 second time penalty for a drop down nose cone. This meant I classified 6th and wouldn’t start the A final.

Overall a fustrating return to racing, but we made good progress throughout the day and I am looking forward to the next race at Camberley Kart Club!

On the plus side, the kart looked fantastic with the still new graphics and my new helmet!

Finally, I hope all is well at Bookers & Bolton!

All of us at Bookers & Bolton Solicitors are so excited to see Sam back in the driving seat and can’t wait to celebrate his first win of the season.
